A beard transplant is a method of hair restoration in which the specialist transplants beard hair to the scalp using follicular unit extraction techniques (FUE) and tools. Similar to hair transplant, a beard transplant is the most permanent hair restoration treatment. The hair follicles are taken from an area of the scalp where the hair is unlikely to fall out as you age, and this means once transplanted the hair should continue to grow for a number of years.

When it comes to scarring, FUE is considered the superior method as it leaves only small unnoticeable white circle-shaped scars behind. The FUE beard transplant is considerably less painful than the other methods, and many patients report little to no discomfort at all.

The procedure itself is very similar to normal hair transplant operations. Hairs from your donor site (back of your head) are harvested to be transplanted to help you achieve that perfect beard.

Beard transplants also need to go in at a correct angle so that the growing hair aligns properly and looks natural. This means that, this process is extremely difficult and requires the steady hand of an experienced specialist. At this point, you can totally trust our experienced and talented specialists!

Pre-Op Instructions

  • Blood thinners and other types of medication will need to be avoided for about two weeks before surgery.
  • Nutritional supplements such as ginseng, Vitamin E, and others should also be stopped during this period. Our medical professionals will talk more with you about this once your medical history has been reviewed and your customized treatment plan has been developed.
  • Alcoholic beverages and smoking should be stopped at least two weeks prior to beard transplant operation to prevent complications with the healing process.
  • Not following the pre-op instructions can lead to “thin blood” and an increase of bleeding during the operation, making it harder to execute a detailed hair drawing that maximizes density. Furthermore, these patients metabolize anesthetics faster, making it more difficult to maintain adequate anesthesia. This will increase the amount of necessary injections and prolong the duration of the procedure.
  • Avoid potential hazards to the face (sun exposure, etc.) in the weeks leading up to your operation.
  • Stop the use of any kind of beard products the day before the procedure.

Post-Op Instructions

  • For the first night, sleep with your head elevated on several pillows or in a recliner chair to prevent swelling, and place a towel under your head for possible light bleeding.
  • Do not take any anti-inflammatory medications and do not drink any alcohol three days prior to your procedure.
  • No direct sun exposure to the face for more than 30 minutes at a time for the first two weeks. Wearing a hat provides adequate protection.
  • Avoid any strenuous physical activity the first two days after your procedure. After six days, you may resume moderate exercise. After 10 days, you may resume swimming.
  • Don’t be concerned if your hair begins to fall out after two to three weeks. It’s a natural part of the process, but by three months you should notice a marked improvement in the amount and thickness of your facial hair.
  • You can begin to shave at eight days after the procedure.
  • For the first five days after the procedure do not get the transplanted areas wet. On the sixth day, you can begin to wash your face normally.
